The short version

What this is
An AI music model that writes and sings whole songs from a text prompt. v6 comes in three versions: v6, v6-wild and the free v6-mini.
Why it matters
Suno is a widely known song tool; v6 leads a small blind music arena and has a free tier, but the board is too small to score.
  • Launched 9 Sep 2026; v6-mini is free, v6 and v6-wild need Pro at $8/month s1 s2.
  • Warner and BMG licensed music for training; Universal and Sony are still suing s5.
  • Free songs can't be downloaded, and content you add can train Suno's models s2 s3.

Good at

  • Free accounts get the new v6-mini model; paid plans add v6 and the more varied v6-wild s1 s2.
  • Ranks first of 13 on the Artificial Analysis blind vocal music arena, with the free v6-mini second s6.
  • Trained from scratch on a new data set that includes licensed music from Warner and BMG, according to Suno s4 s5.

Weak at

  • The one blind music board, Artificial Analysis vocals, lists only 13 models, too few for us to score s6.
  • Free plan gives no commercial rights and no monthly song downloads s2.
  • Your uploads and activity can be used for training, with no opt-out described s3.

Our take

Suno is one of the best-known AI song makers, and v6 is its first model built with record labels on board. Suno says v6 was trained from scratch on a new data set that includes licensed music from Warner and BMG and user data s4 s5. Universal and Sony are still suing Suno over earlier models, and a German court ruled against it in a GEMA case in July s5.

The free plan is a fair way to hear what it can do: 50 credits a day on v6-mini s2. To download songs or use them commercially you need Pro, listed at $8 a month s2. The pricing page also mentions yearly billing savings without stating the yearly total, so check the price at checkout. Before uploading your own audio or lyrics, know that Suno's privacy notice allows it to use content you add to train its models, and it describes no way to opt out s3.

On Artificial Analysis's blind vocal music arena, Suno v6 ranks first and v6-mini second of 13 models s6. Our rules need at least 20 models on a board before it can set a score, so we have not given one yet.

0 to 100
Our score for one job, like writing or coding, compared with everything else out today. 100 is the best available today. For AI models we build it from public data, such as Arena's blind votes and Epoch AI's independent tests; apps and tools are scored on our own checklist. The same tool can score differently for different jobs, and where two likely ranges overlap, we call it a tie.
Our verdict
Use it: a top choice for most people. Worth trying: good, and worth a go. Depends: good for some people or one kind of job. Wait: too early to tell, or not out for everyone yet. Skip: something else does the job better.
First look
Just released. We say what it is and whether to bother, and give it a score once public results exist.
No score yet
None of the public sources we use covers it yet, or the only evidence is from a source whose numbers we can't use, so we describe it in words instead.
Best buy
Nothing cheaper scores as well for that job.
Best free
The best score for that job that costs nothing, through a free plan or by running on your own computer.
Pay as you go
No monthly plan: you pay for each use, usually through a developer account.
Checked
The day we last confirmed the score and the price against the sources. Prices change often, so check the date.
AI model
The engine underneath, like GPT or Claude. You use it through an app or, if you code, directly.
Open source
Free to download and run on your own computer, so nothing leaves your machine.

How we scored this

Reviews are drafted with help from AI models, including Anthropic's Claude. Model scores come only from outside leaderboards and independent evaluations, by a written rule.

History 2 changes

Every change to a rating, the price or our call, with the reason. Scores are against what exists on the day, so they drift down as better things ship. Older entries come from before we moved to scores.

  1. First look. No music leaderboard is large enough to rating it yet.
  2. Audit: added the Artificial Analysis vocal music arena (v6 first, v6-mini second of 13); too small a board to rating, so still a First look.
